Stewie Chason
A few months after my parents lost their previous dog, Katie, they decided to adopt a little West Highland White Terrier mix named Stewie. We found Stewie through a friend of mine. Stewie used to live in a very rural part of South Georgia named Rebecca, Georgia. Rebecca is near Fitzgerald, Georgia, which is where the shelter was from which he was rescued by a wonderful woman, Shannon.
Stewie had all the odds stacked against him at first. He was a sick little puppy, and nobody thought he would live. The reason that nobody thought he would live is because he had something called Parvovirus, also known as just Parvo – not something you want any puppy to get. This nasty bug attacks the intestines and causes vomiting and bloody diarrhea. The treatment can vary from at home care to hospitalization and requires constant and vigilant care.
My friend, Shannon, managed to feed Stewie around the clock and got him better every day. She managed to feed him through bottle feeding and intravenous fluids. He made a full recovery, and we cannot thank her enough for everything she did to save his life. Originally, after getting him over the hump of Parvo, she was not planning to let anyone adopt Stewie. But she changed her mind and let my parents adopt him because she knew me and knew we would take great care of him. Now, Stewie is living the life of luxury. He goes everywhere with my mom. If my mom must leave to do something and Stewie cannot go, my dad makes sure to take him for a ride in the car to take his mind off what is going on, and Stewie gets first choice of spots to sit and/or sleep. Slightly spoiled – to say the least, but we love him and are so thankful for him.
